Hair Loss Treatments

Is there a treatment for hair loss?

Depending on the source of your hair loss, there may be a treatment available.

If the cause is a medicine, a different one can be prescribed so your hair grows back, or at least you will not lose it. Treating and recognizing an infection may help to stop hair loss. Correcting a hormone imbalance can help your hair to grow back.

Some medicines can help prevent or slow the development of common baldness. There is a medicine with the brand name of Rogaine, also known as minoxidil that is available without a prescription. This medicine is applied to the scalp and both men and women can use it.

There is another medicine with the brand name Propecia, also known as finasteride that is available with a prescription. It is available in pill format and is only for men. For some of these medicines, it may take up to six months for them to start working.

Different hairstyles such as shaving the head, wigs, hairpieces, hair weaves and artificial hair replacements are also answers to solve hair loss problems if medicines will not work.

Donna: What started your interest in hair? Zhara: I think for the majority of black women myself included, I've always been obssesed with a major interest in my hair! Lol. My hair has always been a forefront of never ending years of hair dilemmas and styles. Black hair is the most fragile and versatile texture in the world. This has made my hair journey an interesting one from being natural as a child to permed in my teen years with good and bad hair days that brought about emotions and experiences that lay down deep in the soul. Zhara: It's actually more of a community of support and motivation more than a personal website per se. I joined a community online photo blog called fotki.com to document my personal hair journey among thousands of other...

Britney Spears Plans Plastic Surgery

Britney Spears is planning to undergo cosmetic surgery because she has slacked off her diet sources say. Spears would like her body to be the way it was before she had kids. Spears has been ripping pages out of magazines to choose what she thinks are her favourite body parts. Sources say Spears is insecure over how much her body has changed since having her kids. She is reported wanting to do whatever it takes to be back to her best, even if that means plastic surgery. Psychologist Linda Blair says that Britney may need more than just plastic surgery to feel better about herself. Blair says people often think plastic surgery is the answer and will solve their problems when it really does not. Spears is looking into getting a tummy tuck, liposuction, breast enhancement and rhinoplasty. She is also looking to get a chemical peel for her facial skin.

Hello everyone, Soon... The Politics of Black Hair Online Course Book will be published through Lulu.com. I'm really looking forward to this work. It is a compilation of discussions that have been on-going over a 7-week period of time from July 19th to August 29th. The discussions have been part of my research on the politics of black hair in education. I will be doing a discourse analysis of the research as part of my dissertation work. Here is a sneak peak at the cover of the book.
